Description
“Italian design. Exotic handling. Brutal Ford Cleveland power.”💥
In 1973, if you wanted an exotic, mid-engined supercar that could humiliate Ferraris on the track but didn’t require a team of fine-tuned Italian mechanics just to change the spark plugs, there was only one machine to call: the DeTomaso Pantera. Born from a radical partnership orchestrated by Alejandro de Tomaso and Lee Iacocca, this razor-sharp wedge mixed breathtaking Italian styling with blue-collar American muscle.
The strategy behind teaming up with Ford was pure genius. While brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari built incredibly complex, high-maintenance V12s, DeTomaso bypassed the European engineering headaches. Instead, they dropped Ford’s bulletproof, high-revving 351 cubic-inch “Cleveland” V8 straight into a mid-engine monocoque chassis styled by Ghia’s Tom Tjaarda. Sold directly through select Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, the Pantera offered supercar aerodynamics combined with parts availability you could find at your local Ford dealership counter. It was a vicious, tire-smoking exotic that brought high-end European design straight to the American working man’s garage.
This premium garage-themed mug showcases authentic 1973 vintage magazine print advertisement artwork celebrating the legendary 351 Cleveland wedge. Built tough with a vivid, high-gloss finish, it’s fully ready to withstand the heat of a busy shop floor, the breakroom microwave, and the dishwasher cycle.
